SCRATCH STEM SERIES
A collection of STEM lessons developed by Professor Rich Born using the intelino smart train and our Scratch extension. The experimental setup used in each lesson is very easy and quick to put together. Students will use Scratch programming to control the smart train and collect sensory data streaming from it. Students will learn about forces, motion, probability and statistics by analyzing the collected data.

Calculate the train's speed from the slope of distance versus time graph and compare it to the train's nominal speed. Students can experiment with different track layouts.

Determine the train's speed from the slope of speed versus time graph. The included example Scratch program has 4 parameters set by the student allowing for much interactivity.

The random nature of the smart train upon encountering a split track makes it perfect for studying statistics and probability. A variety of track layouts can be constructed that allow interesting studies in these disciplines.
